Singer and songwriter John Denver touched millions of people, and achieved superstar status by his folk-inspired pop hits with a lot of them being set in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, he was in love with Colorado and then relocated to Aspen. Denver's iconic anthems for Colorado have inspired many people to relocate to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame declared it was because John Denver is the only performer to embody Colorado. Denver was the first Hall of Fame ever inductee. To many, Denver is the image of Colorado. When I travel, I always meet someone from the other end of the planet, or someone who is from New Zealand and you say 'I'm from Colorado and the first thing they say is Oh John Denver! Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads is Denver's only Top 10 Hit as a solo artist after having worked with small folk groups. The track was written with Bill Danoff. Danoff composed the song in the name of Johnny Cash but Denver recognized its potential when he first heard it. Just a few days after the performance to a throng of fans on the streets of Washington D.C., the singer recorded this song.
